Materials Testing includes testing of soil, concrete and asphalt using laboratory methods according to ASTM and CSA standards. Soil testing includes Standard and Modified proctors, moisture content, plasticity, sulphate determinations, gradation, etc. Field testing includes the monitoring of compaction of fill materials using nuclear densometers.

Concrete testing currently being undertaken by e2k include the measurement of slump and entrained air content during field specimen preparation. During this test, a minimum of three cylinders are cast using CSA casting procedures for determination of compressive strength, typically required at 7 and 28 day strengths. Cast cylinders are cured until tested in a water tank with a temperature control apparatus. Cylinders are then measured to ensure CSA compatibility quality and capped with a high strength sulphur compound to provide additional quality control over end conditions during compression testing.
